Challenging 7.3km of the GR20

The starting point for this hike is the Auberge de Bonifatu. Those who come by bike can still ride to the end of the Piste de Roncu and enjoy the descent after the hike.

The hike is classified as difficult. Not only the distance, but the section between the two refuges requires time and physical condition. There are always rocky passages to overcome, which cost strength and time. It is therefore worth considering planning an overnight stay in one of the two refuges. With light luggage, the entire route can also be done in one day.

The ascent to the Piobbu hut follows well-maintained hiking trails. The path to Monte Corona follows the same route in the valley of the Rau de Melaghia with ancient pines providing shade, golden eagles and bathing pools.
At the Refuge de’l Ortu di u Piobbu you will meet the GR20 where the water supplies can also be refilled at a spring.

Now follow the GR20 (stage 2) to the Refuge de Carozzu. The path leads up to the 1900 m high Bocca Piccaia and further over the Bocca di Pisciaghja to the highest point of the tour at 2020 m. This is followed by ups and downs with many rocky passages and two easier climbing sections.
You pass the Bocca Avartoli and the Bocca di I’Innominata and there are always breath-taking impressions of the Corsican mountains.

The descent takes place past the Refuge de Carozzu in the Forêt de Bonifatu along the Ruisseau de Spasimata. Later you follow the Ruisseau de Lamitu back to the starting point.
