Running used to not exactly be one of my favorite pastimes. It takes quite a long time to get anywhere and it is exhausting…

Well, the effort turns out to be an advantage on closer inspection. You have a high energy consumption and training effect in a short time. Also, at least here in Corsica, there isn’t a single day that you can’t run. Even in Munich there were only a few days with black ice or something similar when running was not possible.

Worth knowing

It is now an integral part of my activities. I enjoy the scent of the macchia, the views of the sea and the sound of the waves. The Bay of Calvi offers a firm sandy beach, good for running and as an alternative a wooden plank path if the waves are too high or the wind too strong. The paths on the Revellata Peninsula and in the hills around Calvi are also good for running, but caution is required. There are gullies and stones almost everywhere.

Running also requires some preparation, like checking the weather forecast. The temperatures, but even more so the humidity, play a significant role in whether the run feels comfortable. In autumn and winter, on the other hand, you should pay attention to the wind forecast. During strong winds it is recommended to plan the route in an area that is more sheltered from the wind. When the wind blows from the west, the entire area around Calvi, including the wineries, is recommended. When the wind blows from the east, the west coast is the more sheltered area.

In the Calvi area there are almost no running routes without significant vertical gain, unless you only run along the beach. But that would be a shame though, because the area has a lot more to offer. Whether in the wineries, in the hills around Calvi or on the beach, running is more varied here than almost anywhere else.
