Also Part of the GR®20

The Forêt de Bonifatu is the starting point for this hike to Bocca Avartoli, while the approach to the La Figarella valley is already worth seeing.

From the car park at Auberge de la Forêt, follow the signs to Refuge de Carozzu, where you will meet the GR20. The path through the Forêt de Bonifatu is shady and very pleasant even in summer. The mountain stream La Figarella and later the Ruisseau de Spasimata provide pleasant refreshments in between. Due to the GR20 and the easy access from Calvi, it is quite common to meet other hikers in summer.

The path up to the Carozzu hut is not technically demanding. However, there are two stream crossings, which are not easy to master after heavy rainfall or in winter.
Arrived at the Carozzu hut, it invites you to rest with a beautiful terrace.
From then on, the trail is often impassable in winter because of the snow. But the hut is also open in winter and you can warm up by the fire and prepare a hot tea.
The further ascent leads over scree fields and through bushes until you reach the Bocca Innuminata. The rock formations give the impression of being in another world.
It is now about 700 m to Bocca Avartoli with a few simple climbing passages, in the midst of the bizarre-looking Corsican mountains.

If you like, you can continue to follow the GR20 in the direction of Refuge de l’Ortu di u Piobbu.
Otherwise, the descent follows the same route.

As on Monte Grosso, you can also venture here by bike and then have the advantage of being able to cycle another 2 km from the parking lot. The Piste du Roncu was renovated in 2022 and is easy to ski up to an altitude of 675 m. The descent after the hike is of course the best part of it.
