In the past you could still get into the building

The Sémaphore de Cavallo is also located on the west coast on Capo Cavallo and is definitely worth a detour. It is 296 m above sea level opposite the Calenzana windpark.

The sémaphore was used to monitor maritime traffic in the area between Calvi and the Gulf of Porto, and was even equipped with weapons. As the only semaphore at the time, fire monitoring was also carried out from there and it also served as a weather station.

It has been out of service since 1988, but was still used by the French Navy for a while, not least because of the perfect 360-degree all-round view. A few years ago, you could still enter the building, hence the interior shots and the photos from the tower. Unfortunately, that is no longer possible today.

But you still have a beautiful view from the hill top and the tour along the small coastal road along the west coast is an experience in itself.
