A long Coastline and Paths up to 1000 Meters

Not only what I think are the world’s best moules frites in the restaurant Le Nautic in Calvi are named after the peninsula. The northernmost part of Corsica, the finger as they say, also has a lot to offer for mountain bikers.

The coastal road on the cliffs on the west side is not very busy outside the 2-month high season and there are many opportunities to drive down to the sea or to make a detour into the mountains. It is also worth seeing the picturesque villages, often built on the rocks. Nonza, for example, is one of the most beautiful villages in Corsica with a shimmering gray stone beach below. The colour comes from the overburden of the asbestos mining, which was operated here until 1965. There are certainly more suitable places on Corsica for swimming, even if it is no longer supposed to be dangerous. You can pass the industrial ruins if you drive further north. At times up to 400 people were employed here.
If you are continuing, the cliffs frequently offer wonderful views and the villages invite you to take a short break with a coffee.

The first tour continues north and then crosses the peninsula. On the other side there are beautiful paths through the bushland with fantastic views. Doing the tour this way requires some power reserves for the second crossing of Cap Corse. From 0 to 959 meters, first quite flat, then steeper and steeper. But the unpaved path is easily passable with the MTB. A total of almost 2200 vertical meters come together on this tour.
At the top of the Col Saint-Ghjuvanni is the Chapelle Saint-Jean, a small dry-stone church. The views from here are fantastic – to the east you can clearly see Elba and to the west Calvi on a clear day.
The descent on the west side still requires a bit of concentration, because the path is very rocky until you reach the paved road again at Olcani.

The second tour also leads to the Col San Ghjuvanni with the fantastic view, but from the west side on unpaved paths through the maquis. On the way back you drive down the small road to the sea to Albo. With more than 1500 meters of altitude, the tour can also be classified as difficult and dinner can be enjoyed with a clear conscience.
