Just a short tourist ride
Started in Corte and criss-crossed the streets for a bit of sightseeing. Then out of the city and explored the area. The way back then led through the cemetery because there was no other way in sight. In the end, this isn’t a big MTB tour, but rather getting to know the area around the former capital of Corsica.
Pascal Paoli made Corte the capital of the Corsican Republic in 1755, but this only existed for 14 years. Among those fleeing from the French in Corte in 1769 was Napoleon’s mother, who was pregnant with the future emperor at the time.
Corte is the only major city in the heart of Corsica, beautifully situated at the confluence of several rivers and framed by rugged mountains.
There are many historical buildings and sights in the city that are definitely worth a visit.
