Whether winter or summer, Monte Grosso is always worth a visit and offers fascinating views of the interior of the island, such as Monte Cinto or Monte Corona. To the north you have a wonderful overview of the Balagne – from Calvi to Île Rousse to Cap Corse.

I rode my MTB to the starting point of the tour – the descent after the hike quickly makes you forget the effort in the morning. By car it is possible to drive to “A Flatta” and park there.

In winter, however, the amount of snow should not be underestimated. As with this hike in February 2023, there can be more than 1 m of snow at 1800 m. Therefore, the saddle was the end and it was not possible to progress. Especially in the upper area it is difficult to see the way in deep snow if there are no footprints.
However, if you follow the dip uphill, you will soon come out of the pine grove and the snowfield to the saddle is in sight.
Even if the summit cannot be reached, the impressions are unforgettable.

Orientation when descending is then much easier, just follow your own footprints… 😉
