Corsica is also called Île de Beauté (Island of Beauty) and that is more than justified. The variety of landscapes, paradisiacal beaches and leisure activities is unsurpassable. A rich cultural heritage and ancestral traditions are always present here. The Macchia, the Corsican scrubland, exudes its scent of lavender, rosemary, thyme, myrtle, sage and immortelle (Mediterranean helichrysum). Strawberry trees, which bear fruit several times a year and offer a sweet snack on the go, are ubiquitous.
Large parts of the island as well as the sea in front of La Scandola belong to the Parc naturel régional de Corse, a national park that was founded in 1972 and covers about 40% of the island. La Scandola is now also part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The protection of these unique landscapes is very important to the people here.
When traveling in Corsica, nice gestures or remarks or even just a “bonjour” are always appropriate, even among strangers. The local population greets each other, even if you don’t know each other. It always puts a smile on my face, for example when I’m running, and a grandma sweeps the sidewalk and calls out to me: “Run ahead, I’ll be right behind”.
Corsican cuisine is more varied than almost any other. From fish dishes of all kinds to cakes, canistrelli (Corsican biscuits), ice cream and jam with local chestnuts to beef, wild boar and of course sheep and goat cheese – everything is on offer. The things are made locally, processed by hand by local mountain farmers, without factory farming.
Fruits such as figs, prickly pears and citrus fruits as well as vegetables from the island are also recommended, all of which have a more intense flavor than is usually associated with them.
Chestnuts are a particular specialty of Corsica. These are available here in all possible variations: in canistrelli, in cakes, in ice cream, chestnut beer, candied chestnuts, chestnut confectionery, chestnut flour for baking and of course chestnut cream.
If you are in the Calvi area and would like fresh fish from the crystal-clear waters around Calvi, you should definitely pay a visit to the “Fishermen of Calvi” on Sunday morning around 9 a.m. on the “Tour de Sel”. The fish, mostly even tuna, come straight from the boat to the sales table. How about tuna carpaccio?

Whether as a pilot or on the ground – for more than 15 years on the road in Corsica
Flying has always been one of my favorite “hobbies”. Whether as a private pilot with an instrument flight license or as a flight instructor, flying is always fascinating.
A few thousand flight hours and the former management of a flight school with an aviation company and an affiliated aircraft hangar in Germany bring with it a great deal of experience. Sharing and passing them on to other pilots always gives me great pleasure. Especially here on Corsica, flying is more varied than almost anywhere else in the world and all this with the high French safety standards.
Corsica – this is where I want to be and nowhere else in the world. As I got my pilot’s license years ago I came to the island for the first time, she has cast a spell over me. The wild, mostly untouched beauty of Corsica is unsurpassable – and that in the middle of Europe. If you can’t live without outdoor activities, this is the perfect place.
